Garage Floor Repair
Before commencing with application of your industrial San Diego garage floor epoxy paint system it is critical to address garage floor repair. The long term performance of your flooring is subject to how well you prep your concrete slab. Cracks, spalling and chips in the surface need to be patched.
Additionally your entire floor needs to be etched before applying coatings.
Methods for proper surface prep are as follows:
- Acid Etching - you can use acid mixed with water or even better, a gel acid to profile your surface. Profiling the concrete increases surface area. In effect it is like the profile of sandpaper with more surface area for the epoxy floor paint to adhere.
- Shotblasting - This is the process of using a floor machine that shoots thousands of small ball bearings at the floor. The result is a highly profiled floor that removes impurities in your surface and any bond breakers. This is preferable to acid etching because you don't saturate the floor with water.
- Grinding - Using a floor grinding machine with coarse diamond blades is a great system for creating a flat level surface. This process when done correctly will remove the high and low spots. Epoxies have self-leveling capabilities, hence grinding assures an even thickness of the coating across your entire floor.
